What to expect during the fiber construction process

There’s no limit on usage. You’ll never see slower speeds during “rush hour.” Someone will always answer the phone when you call for support. You’ll never have contracts, hidden fees, or fine print. That’s internet made hassle-free. That’s internet from Wintek Powered by Tipmont.

Wintek powered by Tipmont is building the Wintek fiber internet service to the entire Tipmont service area. Construction is typically about a six-month process from start to finish. The information below will help you understand the various phases of fiber construction.

Step 1: Construction preparation

Our engineering department is drafting plans and scheduling the resources needed to begin construction. You may see crews walking through your neighborhood, taking photos, and gathering measurements.

What you need to do: Register your address to express interest.

Step 2: Mainline fiber construction

During this stage, we are building the main fiber network to your area. This step takes a fair amount of time because it involves placing fiber cables in the ground and/or on utility poles. In most cases, the fiber path is along public rights of way on poles, or existing easements on private properties. If there is any disruption to your property, we will repair it. Please don't remove any utility flags on or near your property.

What you need to do: Please have patience during the construction process. Our crews are responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment. If there is any disruption to your property, we will repair it. Don't remove any utility flags on or near your property.

Step 3: Watch for a notice that service is available

Please note: Steps 4-7 typically take about 6-8 weeks to complete.

Step 4: Initial site visit

Once service is available, one of our engineers will consult with you about the plan to bring the fiber network from your property line to the outside of your home or business. We will call to schedule this visit, which will take approximately 30 minutes.

What you need to do: When the appointment arrives, someone 18 years or older must be present. If you need to reschedule, please give us at least 48 hours' notice.

Step 5: Drop construction

This step includes running fiber cable from the road to a junction box that will be placed on the outside of your home. All of the work will be based on what was decided during the initial site visit. Note: The fiber cable will follow the same path as your electric service. If you currently have underground electric service, your fiber optic cable will be buried in the same location. If your electric service is overhead, the fiber optic cable will run overhead, adjacent to the electric wire.

What you need to do: You do not need to be present for this work to take place. We will leave a door hanger to let you know the work has been completed.

Step 6: Fiber installation inside your home

This is the moment you have been waiting for! We will bring the fiber from the outside of your home to the inside, install the fiber gateway, and verify that the WiFi signal is working throughout your home. The technician installing your service will also demonstrate how to best use your subscribed services. We will call you to schedule this visit, which may take up to four hours.

What you need to do: When the appointment arrives, someone 18 years or older must be present. If you need to reschedule, please give us at least 48 hours' notice.

Step 7: Enjoy better internet

You are now connected to reliable, high-speed internet that you’ll use every day for entertainment, connecting with friends and family, work, and more. Our fiber network offers internet speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second (1,000 Mbps), allowing you to stream videos, play games online, and download and upload—on multiple devices—with unlimited data usage. Wintek, powered by Tipmont, offers dependable service and affordable prices from a company you know and trust. It’s our privilege to serve you, and we’re always just a phone call or email away to answer any questions you may have.

What is Fiber to the Home (FTTH)?

Fiber to the Home is the installation and use of fiber optic cables that carry digital information right to your home or business. FTTH is more efficient than traditional broadband technologies like DSL or cable. By using fiber optic technology, your internet connection is more reliable and has a virtually limitless capacity.

What are the benefits of Fiber to the Home?

Reliable

Fiber is more reliable than DSL and cable. Because fiber optic cables are made from glass, they do not receive the noise and interference coaxial cables often receive. This means you’re less likely to experience glitches from inclement weather and distance.

Bandwidth

As innovation continues and the uses for high-speed internet continue to grow, fiber is the only technology with the capability to support the needed bandwidth.

Future-Proof

Once fiber cable is installed, it can be upgraded by replacing electronics on the end rather than replacing the cable itself. As electronic components are upgraded, the same cable you had before can support new bandwidth capacities.

Increased Home Value

According to research by the FTTH Council, fiber increases the value of a home by 3.1%. That translates to an additional $5,437 for a median home price.

What is bandwidth, and why does it matter?

Bandwidth is the rate at which data can be transmitted in a fixed amount of time. Your bandwidth determines the efficiency and speed of your internet connection. As innovation continues, our need for better bandwidth is growing. Today’s typical household is dependent on fast, reliable internet to support devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, personal assistants, and 4K and HDTV.
