What is bandwidth?
Bandwidth is generally referred to as the amount of information that your internet connection can handle at one time. It is usually expressed in bits per second (70 Mbps, 100 Mbps, etc.). Bandwidth is a lot like plumbing, the data is coming through a pipe; the larger the pipe – the more data that can flow through at any given time.
Why is it important?
The amount of bandwidth you need depends on how you will be using your internet connection. Just surfing the web and emailing? Are you streaming movies or tv? Do you have game consoles connected? How many devices are connected and are being used (thermostats, smart appliances)? The amount of bandwidth is divided between your devices and certain activities, like streaming, require more bandwidth than others.
